I didn't like the cage around the spiral ramp from the ground floor the the Cat Walk.
I wanted a railing that was level with the spiral ramp, but also perpendicular to the ground.
A hollow twisted cylinder with less of a cut doesn't quite work.
(Time out for an hour of funkmastery by Esteban Moody... get the mind bouncing... popping... thinking in different directions at once. WHAM!)
However, a hollowed tube with 1.01 rotations and enough of cut to make it razor-thin might...
I did my experiment with a copy of Diva's patio tower:
Perfect!
So I dragged it to 128,128 and got to work.
With a little resizing and retexturing...
Ta-da!
I really need to add a landing somewhere to it. A nice hollow 10x10 cylinder to act as a balcony, which I can also use as a platform to send up a ramp to the airship dock.
Originally, I thought it would good twisted around one of the support pillars, but I really wanted that water conduit from the ground.
When people say "You're a great builder!" or "I wish I could do all that you do!" I can't help but laugh.
I'm no Madcow or LordFly or any number of thousands of great designers and builders out there. I just tinker and play and sometimes what I put together works, and a lot of the time it doesn't.
It's fun to document my progress on these builds, and I guess it helps others because they see that what they think is a good build took lots of time, experimentation, persistence, and testing.
I also need to explore more. That Clock Island build helped me with the spiral steps for Diva's dock, and it certainly got my mind thinking in the general direction of a spiraled hollow tube for the rail.
And then...
There's just times I ought to look out on the water and enjoy.
