Crap - I love little things like etching or specialized textures.

IMNSHO - The rule of thumb I use is to remember what the purpose of the build is - in your case a cool clock tower - and look at enhancing textures there. Now with the windows - that would work nicely because there are multiples of them.

My biggest complaint with builders in SL is that to many builders use to many textures on their builds. Lock down to a few for the overall look. It helps everyones experience.
