Out out, damned spot...

Sometimes, you need to take a step back and think you have to wash your hands completely of things for a while in order to get a grip:

I'm pretty screwed up guys.

I think we've all been there, RL or SL or AL or FL (especially FL... those people in Florida, MAN, do they take the cake!)

So, instead of taking a long look in the mirror and asking myself WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING?, instead, I'm going to look at the superficial aspects of her deep-searching questions and ponder my own answers:

Is it bad I can't remember the last time I went to a movie?

Last one I went to was the Batman 2.2.

But for the most part, we get DVDs and watch them at home because you can pause them, rewind if you miss something, drink whatever you want to drink, pop a toureen full of popcorn, or have a lapcat. (Alright... let's face it... WATCH MOVIES NAKED NIGHT! WOOHOO!)

On the HDTV and with BlueRay (or upconverted DVDs) they look really good.

Is it bad that I don't care what's on TV most of the time?

A lot of stuff on TV sucks. I, for one, have pretty much just watched baseball games this year.

Oh, and movies. On the DVD player.

You know, at last nights Bradburyville lecture, the speaker was saying how Fahrenheit 451 was a warning against television displacing people's book-reading.

I've noticed that my own reading has gone down a lot since I got into SL and heavier into podcasting. But in the past month, I've read and thoroughly enjoyed Raz/Ian's book "The Healer Of Taselon" and I'm reading a stack more of books (Death by George Pendle and the next Dune sequel)... my GOD do we have a ton of books around... and yet, a ton of empty bookshelves we kinda need to fill up soon because the cat's looking at them like OOOOH KITTY EVIL FORTRESS and thinking up plans for a Doomsday device thingy.

Errr... right.

I think I had a point to all this, but let's continue?

Is it bad I haven't gone to mall and browsed and bought myself any new clothes or shoes in a really really long time?

Malls. Rhymes with Qualls. WHY DID THE ASTROS TRADE AWAY CHAD QUALLS????

Uh... ok. Malls.

Except for the Curling League that plays at the Galleria Ice rink on Sunday mornings, hate them.

I know I'm a guy, but I'm quite happy with the jeans, unicolor cotton pullover golf shirt (black), white socks, and either sneaks or black cowboy boots. When they wear out, they get replaced.

I suppose I could do with a new pair of white sneaks, so that's where I'm going after work today. Gonna drop off at Academy and get new sneaks. There.

Is it bad I look in the mirror and hate my hair but haven't gone to treat myself at the salon in ages?

I suppose I could do with haircut, so after getting the sneaks, it's the barbershop for me. Got me a nice book to read while I wait, too.

Thank you, CeN... it may be some superficial things I need to get straight while I work up the courage to dforce myself to hit the treadmill and weights for half an hour a day like I promised to do again, but it's a start.

I needed that, even if I haven't faced my own existential crisis head-on like I probably should... (So CLOSE! So damned CLOSE! Oh GOD what the HELL went WRONG? What did I SAY or DO or DIDN'T DO or MISS or DO TOO MUCH and WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WH... um... is this thing on? Heh... oops.)

But first...

hippy wash 1

hippy wash 2

hippy wash 3

Nothing quite like scrubbing the world off of me, getting over the glitter and doom that accumulate over time, and taking a new outlook on things.

For some, it's too much.

What happens when you take a look and think the opposite... that it's not enough?

Is that when it's also too much?

(Okay, in my defense, I do situps and pushups while waiting for things to boot up and such... although with faster systems, they're less and less... oh, and the midnight snacks are gone... light dinners when possible.)

Nacon:

Sounds like you're aging now.... Might be a good time to start a family.

Excuse me, I'm trying to have a crisis here, please stop making me giggle.
:)

jes remember, books are your friends and they will be there for you when you come back. and if they piss you off, you can use them as fire starter.

Recently I've taken up reading for pleasure again. As I went to reply I realized you had inspired me into a full blog entry about this.

I relate with so much of what you are writing, and I love your sense of humor. Thank you so much.

Nacon - I did. And now, we're down to one cat.

CeN - You're not having a crisis. You're resolving one.

Anima - I must admit, the appeal of reading these LSL books is greatly reduced since Monday morning.

Raven Z - Ah, the springboard of writing... and the cycle lives on.

I was tempted to get audiobooks and run on the treadmill, but I'll stick to podcasts for that and use actual books for my reading exiles on the patio.

And, yes, I always keep a book in the bathroom and by the bedside for reading. I used to say I was reading to Piper because she'd chase me to bed and lay on the pillow as I read.

Nardo's not much of a reader when he can be outside hunting lizards.
