I don't think Linden Lab should be offering up prizes for anything.
If they want to help and reward organizations making a difference, they should do it through pricing, feature development, and stability efforts.
Despite this view, I had quite a few folks asking me for recommendation/nomination letters last year, and they all hit at the last minute.
Shit.
It pissed me off, because even though none of them won (or had a snowball's chance in hell's chance of winning compared to high-profile applicants), I felt that it wasn't fair to just go through the motions on writing something. I put some thought into each in the time I had available. (Which was not much)
So, this year, if I get your request at the last minute, consider it tossed in the trash. I'm not doing a half-assed rush writing job on them.
But, really... for my sake?
Ask someone else.
So, who do I think will win?
Hrm... where do all The Pretty People go...
Look back through the year's Metanomics nonprofit guests, remove Keystone Bouchard and Gentle Heron (previous winners and both very good people), look for their features in official Blog or Twitter feeds, and that's your finalist pool.

I completely agree about the awards system. The "Lab" should avoid the drama and just get on with making the best possible grid. And make it cheaper to rent sims. And stop promising and start delivering.
