SecondLie's winning friends and influencing people again...
NEW BLOG: Shoplifting Cart Disco, highlighting the best in fashion and style for content thieves to rip and resell.
Uh oh.
There's a long list of people that you do not poke sticks at, and the Shopping Cart Psycho is pretty high up on the list.
This will not end well.
As for my thoughts, well, my own encounter with her a week or so ago where she didn't think the Lab's unreasonable suspension of and incompetent attempt to reinstate Ina Centaur's account was fucked pretty much cemented my opinion of her.
Ina's good folks, honorable to every layer and then some, and does a hell of a lot of cultural work on the grid from writing to staging Shakespeare and back.
What happened to her was bullshit, I called it bullshit quickly, and when the facts of the situation came more clear I was proven right.
There's some folks you do not questions the motivations of. They're good folks, and you will never be let down when you believe in them.
It's called faith. It's called trust.
People who earn that know how valuable a thing that is, and the honorable ones know how much of a burden it is to carry.
I aspire to that, but I know I will never quite reach that. It doesn't mean it's not worth trying for.
When those who do conduct themselves with honor and honesty are questioned, by a shrill shill or an oaf of a technician sent on a witch hunt by a jealous rival, yeah, it's a nightmare for all. But when you believe in someone who's good at heart, you're never let down.
And those who question them, well, it also shows something of their character, too.

Crap, I understand what you're saying, but (and this is unrelated to the specific incident with Ina, because I don't know her or anything about this) I never don't question people just because others tell me not to. You should know that makes no sense. Always question everyone.
That does not mean you won't be WRONG if you ask certain questions about people. And hopefully you'll come to understand that they truly are good and respectable, but at least you'll know it because you bothered to figure it out for yourself, not because others told you. Listening to others tell you who to trust is how Bernie Madoff got people to give him money.
I understand your sentiment, but I'll say it clearly: Never trust anyone just because someone else tells you to. Especially if you yourself know nothing of that person. People are wrong, over and over and OVER.
Again, this is NOT about Ina. I don't know her, or really anything about the incident other than what you've blogged. It IS about the fact that no one is, or should be, above question from intelligent people. You can and usually should keep those questions internal until you've come to a conclusion, and it may be a quick one in the case of many people, but you should always make your own conclusions.

I strongly disagree, Radar.
There are some people who have earned my trust, and when something happens like what happened to Ina, I do not doubt their honor and honesty.
Yes, it is good to question those you do not know and do not trust. But once that trust has been earned, there is something to be said for loyalty.

You can talk smack about SCD and not get your legs broken. Tenshi will go all period on you (http://www.adric.us/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/disclaimer.JPG), but she is no more powerful or vengeful than Second Lie who has that look of a young wild man you do not want to cross unless you want 3.2 by volume vomit on your shoes (http://imgur.com/xpGAZ.jpg). Worse case scenario, two 20 somethings hit each other with sticks.
Crap is correct (words it pains one to type) in that there are people in our community who have reached a point (earned more accurately) where we should be careful to do anything that changes that without 8x10 glossies and sworn statements. There are several people I need a ton to suspect and a few I need a sticky note to convict. If we tear those people down and loose them, it's back to being surrounded by people you do doubt.
No Crap, you will always be the guy we suspect when shit happens, so quit trying. I think it's the name.
